COMRO Robots
These COMRO robots have not been manufactured for years. Unfortunately not too many examples of the Comro robots are still known to exist. Even though you may never get a chance to see a Comro robot in person you can read about them here. If you know of any of these robots sitting around collecting dust or parts for these robots (In any condition), Please let me know! I would love to add any one of these to my collection and restore it.
The original Comro 1 robot was listed in the Neiman Marcus catalog on the Mid 80’s. I’ve read that only a couple of these sets were sold. I only have a few pictures of it and have never seen one in action. Besides the main Comro 1 robot the set also included a smaller robot pet that came complete with a carrier.
The most well known robot that Comro made is the Comro Tot robot. The first prototype was the TMC3000 which was sold to Warner Communications that was then given away in a sweepstakes called the “GREAT Robot Giveaway” for the Comro Tot robot. Runner-up winners ended up with a Comro Tot T-Shirt. I believe this was going to be their main robot in the Comro line. The specs for the Comro Tot are:
- SYM-1 6502 based microcomputer brain
- Hexidecimal keypad access through opening on top of head
- SC-01 based speech synthesis
- Two arms can lift up to 4 lbs each
- Head can rotate 300 degrees
- Four wheel drive base
- Body made from 3/32 inch resin-reinforced fiberglass
- Metal chassis/superstructure
- was then painted white.
Besides the Comro 1 and Comro Tot (TMC3000), there were also a few other robots manufactured by Comro. These were the BubbleBot, Bumpy, Wires, and Tin Man. These may have been prototypes only and not made for sale to the public.
